All about Su

Su van der Plas worked as a primary school teacher for 32 years in a number of Aberdeen schools until 2019, including training as a PE teacher with Edinburgh University.  Teaching in inner city and country schools as well as overseas she was a classroom teacher as well as an ICT and PE specialist.  Latterly she did EAL support and mentored pupils in a physical behavioural programme.

In 2016 Su also moved into a part time project worker role with a Christian charity – The Samuel Trust – covering one of the less affluent secondary school catchment areas of the city. This work involved supporting primary school RME provision and leading extra-curricular school clubs as well as family, community and holiday activities.  These provided physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing to children and their families through a number of projects including Make Lunches, Prayer Spaces in Schools, Godly Play storytelling, indoor and outdoor play and one to one mentoring.  Su is a Godly Play trained practitioner and is also fully trained in Capacitar and the peer Massage in Schools Programme.

Su is 100% committed to improving children’s whole wellbeing and understands the importance of connections between embodied, spiritual, reflective, and emotional practices as well as play to accomplish this.  She has a working knowledge of Curriculum for Excellence and will ensure her sessions support the delivery of experiences and outcomes for RME and Health and Wellbeing.

Currently living in Comrie with her husband, Su is becoming a valued member of the local community and is available as a practitioner for schools within the Comrie/Crieff area.  Su can support the delivery of a whole-school approach to wellbeing in your school, provide one off experiences for classes at different seasons of the year or provide wellbeing experiences for staff and children in other contexts e.g. lunch and afterschool clubs, staff meetings or inservice day sessions.
